The 10,000 Steps program has been successfully implemented in a variety of settings, including schools. The original 10,000 Steps program was aimed at adults and not designed specifically for school-aged children with research suggesting the goal of 10,000 steps per day too low for children.
However the resources that are provided on
www.10000steps.org.au are free, fun and very flexible, so schools are able to adapt their use to suit their needs. The use of the 10,000 Steps Tournaments in particular has been popular with schools that have used it to promote physical activity in the staff, students and sometimes in a Tournament including both target audiences!
Recently, the 10,000 Steps Project has been interested to see how primary schools have been using the resources and to assess how application the program in its current form is in primary schools. The working papers that were written up from this research are available on
www.10000steps.org.au For more information on the free, fun and flexible programs that can be used by schools, please visit
